Tuesday, September 15, 2020 | 11:00 a.m. ET
COVID-19 revealed many business continuity programs buckled under pressure and some failed because they could not deliver the right data during the pandemic. Operating in the new normal requires a new business resilience mindset that must cope with the current uncertainty with flexibility and adaptability. Boards, the C-suite, and operational leaders are now leveraging operational resilience to increase their speed of decision-making to address large-scale and complex disruptions with interdependent priorities and issues across the entire enterprise.
In this digital event, we will learn:
- What operational resilience means and how it differs from business continuity?
- What it takes to implement an operational resilience framework?
- What are impact tolerances and its relationship to business services?
- Who should own operational resilience?
- How you can integrate operational resilience with risk management?
- What are some of the key implementation challenges?
To bring it all together, Tejas and Chad will demonstrate connecting organizational objectives and goals to operational resilience.
Here are the bios:

Please join us for a 20 minute Continuity Logic Digital Spotlight Event: Operational Resilience: Moving Beyond BC on Thursday, August 13th.
We are seeing a significant shift in how companies consider both the value they generate for their stakeholders and the harm that operational disruptions, like COVID-19, can cause. Operational Resiliency incorporates BC and connects it to corporate strategy, stakeholder value, and customer facing services. See a demo on how Continuity Logic is implementing a framework for operational resilience that leverages existing BC data and provides visibility of business services from end to end.
Please use this link to register for our CL Digital Spotlight on Thursday, August 13th at 11 am ET / 8 am PT / 4 pm UK. We welcome your questions or comment after the demo.
Monthly, Continuity Logic will add content to the Digital Spotlight Series to feature particular use cases or our platform’s features/benefits. Topics are sourced from customer suggestions and market polling.

The Covid-19 pandemic has rapidly had a greater impact on daily lives than most of us could ever have guessed at. It appears that the world has been making up its response as it goes along, and in many ways, it has needed to.
But are we starting to see lessons that risk and resilience professionals need to be assimilating into their thinking for the future? Not basic ‘have you got your plans in order’ lessons but more fundamental and far reaching considerations. We believe that the answer to this is yes and so we have brought together a team of acknowledged thought leaders in three different, but highly relevant, fields – legal, economic, and epidemiological – to help take us through them.
Dr Michael Head, Senior Research Fellow in Global Health, University of Southampton will talk about the likely future course of the pandemic. What is likely to unfold over the months following the end of June, and what courses and consequences might we see with other plausible pandemic scenarios in the future. Michael has been speaking extensively with the media on this topic and will update us on complex issues in his clear and understandable language.
Jan Putnis, Partner & Head of Financial Regulation Group, Slaughter and May will then discuss the legal implications of where organisations find themselves today. There are multiple issues around remote working, workplace closures, job retention schemes and the duties of directors who find their companies in financial distress. Jan will seek to bring these together for us in a way which talks to the concerns of risk professionals.
Innes McFee, Managing Director Macro and Investor Services, Oxford Economics will finally conclude for us with the medium- to long-term economic consequences of what we are going through. How do the economics look today, will economies bounce quickly back to full activity or will the pain be more drawn out? And will the consequences of the pandemic re-shape economic activity as well as simply hamper it?
Finally, please note. Our understanding of this pandemic is growing, sometimes by the day. Consequently, all three speakers will be presenting their thinking as it stands at the date of the event – 24 June 2020. They will not be presenting old news. This means that the agenda may change, subtly or otherwise, from that published here today.

The bar has just been raised: supply chain management and organisational resilience are now inextricably intertwined. As of 5 December the UK’s Prudential Regulation Authority (part of the Bank of England) published a consultation paper on Outsourcing and Third Party Risk Management. In this it set out its proposals for “modernising the regulatory framework on outsourcing and third-party risk management”. The proposals are extensive and their influence will be felt far and wide. To brief you on the implications for your own organisation we have brought together a team of acknowledged thought leaders and practitioners, and over this morning event they will be presenting the state of the art re. anticipated best practice. The team comprises:
- Kanika Seth, EMEIA Lead for Third Party Risk Management, EY
- Dr Heather Skipworth, Associate Professor, Cranfield University
- Nick Brazier, Head of Third Party Management and Anna Gurney, Head of Supplier Relationship Management, Close Brothers.

Background
Three years ago, on 23 June 2016, the electorate of the UK was asked a seemingly simple question: “Should the United Kingdom remain a member of the European Union or leave the European Union?”. The response from 51.9% of this electorate was that the country should leave – ushering in what is viewed by many as the most tumultuous period in British politics since 1945.
For businesses and organisations of all types the most pressing question has been, and continues to be, what shape will this departure take? If a managed separation agreement (a ‘deal’) with the EU is agreed then the UK’s most pertinent trading and regulatory agreements should stay in place until the future relationship negotiations are concluded. But if such a deal is not agreed then we are into territory not charted since the country’s entry to the then European Communities (EC) on 1 January 1973 – a very different world.
It is against this backdrop that our next thought leadership event will focus exclusively on the types of disruption that either of these alternatives, and various shades inbetween, could bring for businesses and organisations of all types. We will not attempt to look at or judge the rights and wrongs of any particular political outcome, that is for others. Instead, we will explore the political realities that could lead to deal or no deal. We will explore the preparations that have already been established at a governmental level for either scenario. And, most importantly, we will explore the preparations that should be put in place by your own organisations to mitigate disruption, mild or severe, depending on where the political roulette wheel stops. In short, we will focus on the forward planning that is required to build resilience for any plausible outcome – a prime duty for any organisation looking to thrive during uncertainty.

You say you want a revolution
A thought leadership event from Continuity Logic
In the words of John Lennon, we all want to change the world. And if he could have been singing about you you’ll want to be with us on 15 May.
For many years the BIA has been regarded as the cornerstone of effective business continuity management. It is taught on training courses worldwide and it is rare to see its value even remotely challenged by serious practitioners. But this could be changing. Over recent years two experienced business continuity professionals from the USA—Mark Armour and David Lindstedt—have been honing an alternative approach known as Adaptive BC. And bit by bit, fellow professionals have been starting to sit up and take note. The approach has now attracted a wide range of advocates to the point where it is arguably unwise, revolution or not, to ignore it.
In a nutshell, the Adaptive BC Manifesto considers that:
“Despite tremendous revolutions in technology, organisational practice, and global business in the last fifteen years, traditional BC methodology has become entrenched. It has made only small, incremental adjustments, focusing increasingly on compliance and regulations over improvements to organisational readiness. This has led to a progressively untenable state of ineffectual practice, executive disinterest, and an inability to demonstrate the value of continuity programs and practitioners.” (see www.adaptivebcp.org)
Heavy stuff. So, should you know more about it? Yes, you probably should. And there will be few better opportunities than this. We have invited a co-founder of the movement, Mark Armour, to headline our next thought leadership event at The Shard on Wednesday 15 May.

Event details: For the third in our series of thought leadership events we are dedicating the entire proceedings to reputation. In particular, the role of business continuity and incident/crisis management leaders in managing this precious but delicate asset during a crisis.
It’s important. For many organisations reputation is of equal if not greater value than immediate operational needs. And whereas facilities can be rebuilt a shattered reputation may linger for years and, ultimately, lead to lasting damage.

For the second in our series of thought leadership events we are dedicating the entire proceedings to cyber security. In particular, the role of risk and business continuity leaders in both preparing for and responding to a cyber-attack on their organisations.
This is a big topic with many facets and is worthy of your full attention. During the previous event in March a full house of 70+ guests heard from IBM’s Robin Gaddum on the crucial contribution that business continuity can bring to planning for, and responding to, a cyber-attack. This session follows on from that theme and delivers in-depth analysis and recommendations from three deeply involved speakers.

Predicting the future is never easy. But it is already possible to see what it might hold for organisational resilience as we head toward the 2020s.
Continuity Logic has brought together speakers from three highly regarded organisations who have something important to say about business continuity and the direction in which it is heading. Their insights could help you and the value you bring to your organisation.
Karen Azzopardi from Barclays will be describing her bank’s re-designed ‘front-to-back’ resilience programme. Why was it introduced? What does it look like? And what challenges has the bank encountered along the way? Robin Gaddum from IBM will be discussing his close and direct experience of helping organisations to recover from cyber-attacks – you may be shocked at the scale of damage involved and the crucial role for business continuity. And Gianluca Riglietti will be presenting hot-off-the-press findings from The BCI’s Horizon Scan 2018. What are BCM professionals as a whole saying is important today, and what will be important five years from now.
Note: a registration link will be provided shortly. In the interim, email info@continuitylogic.com to reserve your seat.
